Following the Ketogenic Diet with a Hawaiian Palate

What Get For Eat at Fresh Catch

What Get For Eat at Fresh Catch

I’ve been doing intermittent fasting on Tuesdays and Thursdays, choosing to fast from after dinner to 2 p.m. the next day. However, I have to pick up a kid at 2:20 (and later at 3:40 and 5:00, which makes me crazy), so I don’t have a lot of time to start eating before I have to leave. Last week, I was really hungry, so I decided to stop at Fresh Catch on Waialae. I figured if I couldn’t find anything on the menu (unlikely), I could just get poke.

In the end, I got a Furikake Seared Ahi Salad. Their regular one is the one on the menu, but the lady taking my order was happy to give me the furikake one on a salad (it normally comes with rice).

Furikake Seared Ahi Salad

Looks fab, right? It was really good and it came with a ton of greens. If you’re looking for something really low-carb, though, definitely get the regular seared ahi salad, not the furikake, since they put a LOT on there and furikake has some carbs. Minimal, but there had to be at least 2 tablespoons. I ended up picking some of it off. Plus, all those greens add up carbs too.

Definitely do not eat the salad dressing. That stuff was super sweet. I just dipped a fingertip in and that was enough to scare me off. The fish came with some kind of horseradish sauce, which was tasty, but I could taste sweetness too, so I stopped eating it. The fish and lettuce was enough, in my opinion.

They’ve been featured on Triple D with Guy Fieri, so that was cool, but looking at most of their sauces, they’re to be eaten sparsely, if at all—lots of sugar in almost all of them.

Other stuff on my list to try: Smoked Meat, Steak Plate, Ahi Stirfry, Tomato Basil Ono, Garlic Salmon, Garlic Ahi, and Sauteed Poke.

Stuff to stay the heck away from: Dorito Salad (seriously, *scream*), Seasoned Fries, Poke Fried Rice, Crab Stuffed Ahi Roll (god, I miss this), any sandwiches, Fish & Chips, and Fish Tacos.
